Tanmay Bhat : A Man Ahead of Our Times!
Tanmay Bhat, a name that has been dominating the Indian YouTube circuit for over a year and half. You may know him as the founder of AIB, or you may know him as a vlogger, you may know him as an economics enthusiast or you may know him as a comic and streamer. Basically, Tanmay is the Karan Johar of Indian YouTube! A wise, well-spoken, dynamic individual who has his contacts in this field but more importantly is hard working and ahead of our times. Now the article today doesn’t go deep into the AIB Scandal, because “To take a huge leap, you always need to go a few steps back”. And this is exactly what we’ll be talking about today: —
AIB Sketches and Stand-Up comedy :
One can never ignore the fact that AIB as a channel itself was way ahead of their times. Their videos such as the “Honest Series” including a comical portrayal of house parties, air travel, etc. connect to the audience till date. Do not tell me that you have forgotten the scene from Honest Placements where the college is placing engineers by the quintal!! The AIB Roast was something one-of-a-kind. It had mixed opinions initially, but if we look back, we can easily conclude that as an Indian Audience we have never been exposed to such honest, blatantly funny and relevant jokes. The term Stand-Up comedy too was introduced to us by Tanmay. In fact, it was only after AIB’s surge that groups such as the EIC and TVF took over.
Tanmay Bhat and his investments in OTT :
The first instance where I come across this gem foreseeing the future is in 2017. It was in a podcast with Ranbir Kapoor where Tanmay asked Ranbir whether he would be interested in producing an OTT based film. Ranbir answered by saying, “Seriously tell me what is the reach of Web Series in this country? Is it a platform accepted by the country? Is there engagement? What’s the point of having 3% from a billion?” To which Tanmay confidently yet nonchalantly replied, “It seems you are unaware of it.” IMAGINE SAYING THAT TO A TOP STAR!
This happens only in the case when you are self-assertive, optimistic and well informed about things happening around. They had invested in the Web Series “Chintu Ka Birthday” back in 2016 end when no one throwing grass to the web platform. It was expected to premier on Netflix but due to things going a bit wrong they had to settle for Zee5 in 2019. Not to forget the amazing storyline, casting, acting and screen play of Chintu Ka Birthday.
Tanmay Bhat and YouTube :
After AIB going the downward spiral, Tanmay resorted to a platform he was well acquainted with, YouTube. And as you “Always say that a downfall shows your mistakes but your comeback shows your true character.” And as expected, Tanmay hit it right! Beginning with commentary and streaming, he opened a world which was new to people. The concept of “Streamers” too hit India in end of 2019 and mid 2020s, by then Tanmay had already been there and done all of that! Not to forget the contribution of comics such as Nishant Tanwar, Samay Raina, Zakir Khan, Kumar Varun, etc. who backed Tanmay because they knew they are associating with a creative genius.
Tanmay also expanded to speaking about finance and economics. “Honestly by Tanmay Bhat” is his own unique way of promoting financial literacy. Tanmay also has ventured into vlogging. Many analysts have compared him to David Dobrik. By comparing the “Peculiar Laugh”, “Group of roommates”, and the honesty that both the creators have in the vlogs. But that’s exactly what successful people do isn’t it? Have a look and learn. There might be resemblance but you also have to agree about the originality and Indian touch that Tanmay adds.
Tanmay Bhat and Cred :
The last and the most interesting part of the blog is Tanmay’s association with Cred. For any marketing executive in the corporate world, Tanmay has simplified the key for success. You don’t need a unique product to make it big. What you need is to associate your product to something that the audience finds unique. So, you might be a credit card bill paying app but even Indiranagar ka Gunda Rahul, Kapil Dev as Ranveer Singh or Neeraj Chopra The OscarWinning Actor, can do wonders for you!!
